Don’t miss the opportunity to view the winning entry of Broadway Gallery’s ‘Design Your Own Rug’ competition at Discover Letchworth. Local resident and illustrator Venice Shone won first place in the competition, drawing inspiration from Allistair Covell’s first solo exhibition Canvas to Carpet which showcased at Broadway Gallery earlier this year. Judges were impressed with Venice’s bold and bright geometry and its ability to be displayed in all directions. The design has been hand-woven by Rug Makers in Nepal and will be on display in Discover Letchworth for a limited time before being presented to the winning designer. You can also take the opportunity to visit the vibrant museum space at One Garden City adjacent to Discover Letchworth, which explores the social history of Letchworth. The museum space combines a variety of photographs, furniture, household objects, toys, textiles, smells and interactive exhibits to immerse visitors in the pioneering story of how the world’s first Garden City developed. The museum is designed to appeal to everyone from local children and families to first-time visitors to Letchworth, and showcases items from the Garden City Collection – which looks after over 250,000 objects from books and bicycles to corsets and cinema seats.
