A Museum that celebrates the history of elementary education. Here young and old can enjoy going back to school, to a place where “Learning Comes to Life”.
They offer guided tours by experienced guides — or you can make your own way around with a tour leaflet to explore the 1837 Monitorial Schoolroom built to house 300 children, the mid 1850s Gallery Classroom, the Edwardian Classroom and the WW2 Classroom. Follow the Family Discovery Trail with the children. The headmaster’s house set in the late Victorian period enhances a visit. The museum is very hands-on, you can try writing in a sand tray or on a slate, or dipping your pen into an inkwell as well as playing with early toys, games and puzzles.
